## Terms of Service
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of LifeStory AI, a service operated by LifeStory Talk LLC, a Delaware limited liability company ("LifeStory," "we," "us," or "our"). By purchasing a session, starting an interview, or otherwise using the service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
### 1. What LifeStory AI Is
LifeStory AI is an AI-guided video interview service. You (or someone you purchase a session for) speak with Sam, our AI interviewer, for a guided conversation about your life. The session is recorded on video, transcribed, and used to produce a private, shareable webpage containing the full interview video, a written transcript, and a small number of short highlight clips.
### 2. Purchases and Payment
A LifeStory AI session currently costs $145 per interview, charged at the time of purchase through our payment processor, Stripe. We never see or store your card number. Prices may change for future purchases; the price you were charged at checkout is the price for that session.
Sessions may be purchased for yourself, or as a gift for someone else. See our Refund Policy for what happens if you or the recipient decide not to complete the interview.
### 3. Recording and Your Content
Starting an interview records video and audio of the person being interviewed. We ask for your explicit consent to this recording before it begins. Full detail on what we collect, which outside services we use to process it, and how it's stored is in our Privacy Policy.
You (or the interviewee) own your story, your recording, and your transcript. By using the service, you grant LifeStory a license to host, process, transcribe, and — solely at your direction, such as when you choose to share your private page link with family members — display that content, for the purpose of providing the service to you. We don't sell your recording or use it to train third-party AI models.
### 4. Sharing With Family
After an interview is complete, the interviewee can share their private LifeStory webpage with family members by entering their email addresses. Anyone sent that link, or anyone the interviewee otherwise forwards it to, will be able to view the video, transcript, and clips. Please only share your link with people you want to have that access.
### 5. Acceptable Use
Please use LifeStory AI for its intended purpose: recording your own life story, or a story you've arranged with the interviewee's knowledge and consent. Don't use the service to record someone without their knowledge, to upload or produce unlawful content, or to attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorized access to the service.
### 6. Disclaimers
LifeStory AI is provided "as is." While we take reasonable care with your recording (including periodic backups during the interview), no recording or storage system is perfectly failure-proof, and we can't guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service. Sam is an AI interviewer, not a medical, legal, financial, or mental health professional, and nothing said during a session is professional advice.
### 7. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, LifeStory Talk LLC's total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of the service will not exceed the amount you paid for the session giving rise to the claim. We aren't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.
### 8. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
### 9. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the effective date above. Continued use of the service after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

## Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what information LifeStory Talk LLC ("LifeStory," "we," "us") collects when you use LifeStory AI, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We've tried to write this in plain language rather than dense legal text, because what happens to your recording matters and you should be able to actually read it.
### What We Collect
When you purchase or start a LifeStory AI session, we collect:
- Your name and email address (and, for a gift purchase, the purchaser's and recipient's name and email separately, plus any personal note the purchaser writes).
- Video and audio of your interview, and the written transcript generated from it.
- If you choose to share your finished LifeStory with family members, the email addresses you enter for them.
- Basic technical information (like IP address) used briefly and automatically to prevent abuse of our systems — we don't log this to build a profile of you.
We don't collect or store your payment card details — Stripe handles that directly.
### Recording Consent
Before your interview begins, we ask you to explicitly confirm that you understand and consent to being recorded on video and audio. If you don't consent, the interview won't start. If someone else purchased your session as a gift, that consent is still yours to give — the purchaser can't consent on your behalf.
### Services We Use to Deliver LifeStory AI
We rely on a small number of trusted outside providers to actually run the service. We don't sell your data to anyone, and we don't use these providers for advertising or tracking:
- Stripe — processes your payment. We only receive your name, email, and payment status, never your card number.
- Google Cloud Speech-to-Text — converts your spoken answers to text in real time during the interview. Your raw audio is not stored beyond producing that transcript.
- Google Gemini (Google AI) — reads the transcript of your answers to generate Sam's next question and, afterward, a narrative summary of your story.
- Google Cloud Text-to-Speech — generates Sam's spoken voice during the interview.
- Google Drive — stores your interview video and transcript files, including periodic backups made during the interview so a connection issue doesn't lose your progress.
- Cloudflare Stream — hosts your finished interview video and highlight clips for playback on your private LifeStory webpage.
- Gmail — sends the transactional emails you receive from us (interview links, gift notifications, your finished LifeStory).
- A private database (hosted on Neon/PostgreSQL) that stores the account and session information described above.
### Your Private LifeStory Webpage
When your interview is complete, we create a private webpage containing your video, transcript, and highlight clips, accessible only via a unique, hard-to-guess link — not by a public login. Anyone who has that link can view the page, so please only share it with people you want to have access. If you choose to share it with family members by entering their email address, they'll receive a view-only version of that link; they won't be able to add more recipients or make changes.
We never make your page public or searchable unless you separately opt in to have a specific clip considered for our public stories page — that's always your choice, never automatic.
### How Long We Keep Your Information
We currently keep your video, transcript, and account information so your private LifeStory webpage continues to work and so you and your family can access it going forward. We don't have an automatic deletion schedule today. If you'd like your recording and personal information deleted, contact us at info@trylifestory.com and we'll process your request by hand across our storage and database systems.
### Children's Privacy
LifeStory AI is intended for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from children, and the service isn't directed at them.
### Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the effective date above.

## Refund Policy
### Our Policy, in Plain Terms
You can get a full refund on a LifeStory AI session any time before the interview recording begins. Once the interview starts, we're not able to offer a refund, since that's the point where your session with Sam — and the real cost of producing it — actually happens.
This covers the situations you'd expect:
- You bought a session for yourself and changed your mind before starting.
- You bought a session as a gift, and the recipient hasn't started their interview yet.
- You started the system checks (camera/microphone) but didn't begin recording.
### How to Request a Refund
Email info@trylifestory.com or call 646-290-0197, and we'll take care of it. Refunds are issued back to your original payment method and, once processed on our end, typically appear on your statement within 5–10 business days, depending on your bank.
### Questions Before You Buy
If you're not sure whether LifeStory AI is right for you or the person you're buying it for, reach out before purchasing — we're happy to answer questions first. See our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for more on how a session works.

## Recording Consent (shown before "Start Interview")
This is a required checkbox on the pre-interview screen — the interview cannot start until it's checked:
> I understand this session will be recorded (video and audio), and that LifeStory Talk LLC will store and may share this recording as described in our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
