“Do You Have A Favorite Story or Adventure?”
“The time of a friend of mine and I right after high school, we decided to take some time, few months, and we hitchhiked from, well, we got a ride to Chicago, and then from Chicago we hitchhiked to Los Angeles. It was 66, the old road, but it was the way to travel back in the early sixties on highways, some highways were built, but we took the old 66 and we we got off and we stayed a month in Vegas. Then we stayed in L.A. for several weeks and we were gone about three months and we hitchhiked all the way back. So it was through Texas. We took a southern route coming back to New Mexico and Texas and that way back from L.A. And that was kind of preposterous and something a little different that not too many people have done. There were times when we would have to wait for you know, I don't think we ever went for more than a couple hours where somebody picked us up. But there were traveling salesman back then who would be driving from city to city and a lot of those kind of guys picked us up. And some were sometimes we were picked up by truck drivers, 18-wheeler type trucks. Route 66 was the main highway back then. I mean, it was only, it was a two lane, but it was a main route between Chicago and L.A. and it's still a pretty cool road. You ever want to go on a trip, it's back in the news. People are doing it again. It's crazy. A friend of mine by the name of Jim Steffien. He was a high school classmate and I knew him since grade school. We played a lot of sports together. We were both very competitive. I get emails from him every day. Yeah, Steff.”
